What is the difference between a Reball and a Reflow Process?
In this article , Mr. Vipin of CHIPTRONIKS fame will explain the differences between reball and reflow process. The Reason we ask for you to heed making such a quick decision is because you may do so irrationally without your knowledge. We would also like to explain how different BGA Machines differ and how RE-7500 has emerged as the best BGA Rework Station . There are many low cost machine but they fail to do the simple works even . So read the article below and if you decide to buy BGA Rework Station , Call us 00919971004998 or visit www.bga-rework.in
(The process of using a heat source -heat gun, candle, heat lamp- heating up the GPU (Graphic Processing Unit also known as the video card) to a point where the solder balls that hold the Chip to the motherboard melt into a liquid state and any cracks or moved solder balls are removed creating a complete circuit making that a temporary fix)
Some companies offer a process called Reflow, which essentially means what it sounds like, you are reflowing the solder back into a ball therefore removing the crack. Only problem is, since the solder is the same as it was when you had your computer repaired, that means that the issue will most likely arise. And 90% of the time that is true. Your laptop will have the same problem within 1-12 months at best. The 10% of laptops who surpass that time frame are people who rarely use their laptop after that, what this does is remove the stress of the video chip causing it to not heat up and get that solder so it cracks. So you will go out and get a reflow done, maybe you will get a 30-90 warranty MAX. Because that company knows you will be back to pay them the 60-100 dollars or more for the same process. DO NOT BE TRICKED!!!! Ask the repair shop before you get the process done, if they do Reball or Reflow. If its Reflow STAY AWAY. If they say they do reball, ask them for video evidence. If they cannot provide that, we do. We create a video log of the whole process and we keep it on file for 1 year. The main problem is that these companies have invested very less in their machineries and they do not have capability to reball .
(This process we use a high quality piece of technology that uses a bottom heat source to help heat the bottom of the chip, while at the same time an Infrared Lamp is shined on top of the video chip, with both heat sources on the chip, the solder under the chip becomes liquid, and the chip is then removed. We use flux, and a solder braid to remove the solder on the chip and on the motherboard where the chip was sitting very carefully to not damage the solder pads. Than we replace new solder balls that are Lead-based -not the new solder balls that are RoHS eforced, visit the link on the right to read more. We than place the chip back on the motherboard and solder it back on, making it a permanent fix)
After doing research we have found that not very many companies have the ability, tools or training to do this process. We do. This process takes about 3 hours for the reballing process not including removing the laptop motherboard from the case. In this process we replace the lead-free solder balls that the manufacturer used due to the RoHS directive, with Lead-Based solder. Lead-Based solder holds a lot stronger and is more flexible than the lead-free solder. Therefore your solder balls will not crack or move around when the chip is heated up and cooled down. The lasting rate of laptops repaired with the Reball process is 2+ Years.
